K-Rowling, the best-selling author of the Harry Potter books joined Daniel Radcliffe, who plays the teenage wizard, at the premiere of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at London’s Leicester Square, and despite torrential rain the fans turned up in droves.

Despite the terrible weather, Harry Potter fans crammed into Leicester Square for the European premiere of the fifth film.

Daniel Radcliffe, 17, arrived holding an umbrella and fans chanted "Harry, Harry, Harry" as he made his arrival to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

JK Rowling said that it was "fantastic" to see how many fans had turned up for the show.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, in which Harry Potter brings together a group of apprentice wizards and witches to combat a growing evil, goes on general release in the UK on 12 July.

JK Rowling, who is finishing the final book in the series, and which is set to be published on 21 July, said she is looking forward to a holiday after it is all done.

Daniel Radcliffe was joined by his co-stars Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and he revealed that the new film is much darker than previous ones in the Harry Potter series.
